Beginning with a Bash

Phoebe Atwood Taylor writing as Alice Tilton: Beginning with a Bash (1987)

From the Publisher:
For years, Phoebe Atwood Taylor fans have enjoyed taking time off from Asey Mayo to discover her mysteries featuring Leonidas Witherall, Wm. Shakespeare's look-alike, all set in Boston and its fictional suburb of Dalton. Here is the very first of them.

Young Martin Jones is initially relieved to find shelter in Peters' Second-hand Bookstore. There's a sub-zero wind on the Boston streets, he's dressed only in thin flannels, and the police are hot on his heels. But when the body of Professor John North is discovered in the store, his head bashed in, Jones is promptly arrested. Fortunately for him, Leonidas Witherall is on the scene and convinced of his innocence. Proving it, however, will be another matter.

PHOEBE ATWOOD TAYLOR (1909-1976) lived in Boston and Cape Cod for most of her life. Best known as the creator of the Asey Mayo series, she also wrote as Alice Tilton and Freeman Dana.
